The area is a walker’s paradise, where pretty riverside walks can be enjoyed just minutes from the doorstep and provide excellent opportunities for bird-watching with a wetlands conservation area just a 5 minute walk away.

Masham is just 1.5 miles away and boasts two excellent butchers – who make delicious pork pies and sausages too - , a green grocer, a bakery, a newsagent, a small supermarket and a branch of Barclays Bank. There are galleries and a glass making studio, tearooms, award winning restaurants and two wonderful sweetie shops!

There are excellent country pubs, the Black Sheep Brewery and Theakston’s Brewery, both with visitor centres; Swinton Park Hotel is very close with an excellent restaurant and a brand new Spa - and Gardens; Masham Golf Club has a superb 9 hole golf course; fishing and pony trekking are readily available…and so much more There are regular annual events that make Masham special such as the Steam Fair in July and the Sheep Fair at the end of September. There is a market in the Market Place twice a week and a Farmers’ Market one a month in the Summer.

Abbeys, castles and wonderful gardens such as Newby Hall are within easy reach and the Royal Horticultural Society Gardens, Harlow Carr are in Harrogate where there is a branch of Betty’s Tearooms within the grounds. The Turkish Baths and Health Spa have been completely refurbished in Harrogate and are definitely worth a visit. The Cathedral City of Ripon and beautiful York, the North York Moors and even the seaside with Whitby, and the delicious kippers there, are within easy driving distance. The Dales, with Middleham,a racing heartland, the market town of Leyburn and a little further away, Hawes have much of interest and charm to offer. Skipton with its Castle and Bolton Abbey are also within easy reach as is the magnificent Bowes Museum.

There are plenty of attractions and activities for children. As well, ranging from farms with visitor centres, museums, a shooting school, paintballing not far away and Aerial Extreme for the dare-devils, caves and museums. Something for all ages and tastes and plenty to do and see when the weather is not so good.
